Music Video Analyse of a Specific Genre
The genre of these five music videos is pop and they were all popular in 2013. The conventions of these music videos are all very similar but they're portrayed very differently. Usually the costumes that are worn, represent the personality of the singer.
There is also a lot of dancing that occurs throughout the music videos. The dance moves are exaggerated but they portray fun and enjoyment.
Furthermore, to add an interaction with the audience music videos have various camera angles but especially close ups.
The music videos usually follows a story of which is being sung about and the video is set in a place that links with the song.
Lastly, in all music videos there is a lot going on and the camera films other things and not just the singer singing down the lens of the camera.

Conventions of a Music Video
When creating music videos, a lot of thought are put into them and not just music. All music videos have to follow certain conventions, I researched five completely different music videos from various eras and I found that all the videos had people in the video either singing or dancing. Also, many things are happening and it is not just focused on the singers. It could be focusing on the environment around them, or certain aspects of the background. Each music video usually follows a story and the lyrics to the song will obviously follow this story.
To make the music videos more interesting and exciting for the target audience, various camera angles are used, whether they are long shots, mid shots or even wide shots every camera angle creates excitement. Furthermore, close ups are used throughout the videos and this makes the audience feel engaged and part of the video.
All the movements are hyperbolic (exaggerated) which shows that the people within the video are enjoying themselves. Music videos always create popular and iconic dance moves.
This is a part of a music video of which these dance moves has become extremely popular around the world as they're quirky, catchy and eccentric.
Additionally, the music videos are set in a place that links with the story and the song. Some videos, usually the older ones had filtered colours over the top but now the backgrounds have distorted and vibrant colours and shapes to attract the audience.
This is a music video with the black colour filter over the whole video, this is used to portray emotion and mood.
This is a part of the music video which highlights the vibrant backgrounds.
All the people in the video wear costumes and they relate to the era, song and the personality of the singer.

Logo Evaluation from Audience
After reading my peers' views and interpretations on my logos I found it interesting because many of them had the same thoughts and they were to make them more colourful or how professional they looked. I used this feedback to make the logos even better because I found it useful.
This is the evaluation that I self assessed and I criticised all the things which I could have done to make it better. After seeing other peers' logos I felt that I could evaluate my own logos better. With all things, you can always find faults and ways to improve them and this is exactly what I did.Creating the Logo for Playground Ident
I initially started by creating blank custom, transparent template which would form the canvas for my ident logo design.

I then had trouble making four lines all the same size and width so I decided to use arrows which I found in the custom shape tool. I believe it is better like this because the stalk to the arrows are much bolder and they look more vibrant. Furthermore, the colours which I used highlighted the boldness of the lines. I then used the eraser tool to eradicate the point of the arrow. This made them look more like lines.

I reshaped the lines to make them thinner and longer and I arranged them into a grid formation. I decided to make them different length, but only slightly, because it made the design look rustic. Whereas, if I had it all perfect, it would look too perfect and false.
To add identity to the piece, I had to add writing. I used the character and paragraph palette to edit the text to make it look professional and sharp.
This is the completed logo but it is only a draft as I may need to adapt the ideas to make it look more creative and vibrant.

Testing Final Ident Idea
There was some doubt whether the Playground ident would work and this is why I wanted to test it out. I gathered all the props together to shoot this ident. The initial thought was to stand on chairs and to bounce 2 basketballs to each other. However after practicing this, it didn't come out well so I decided to film someone throwing the basketballs at the hoop and to only film the hoop and the basketballs going in. this looks much more creative and for the audience, it is more appealing. So after this, the ident will look better with this change to it.

Lock Evaluation
The genre of music which best represents the name 'Lock' is heavy rock metal because a traditional lock is made out of a heavy metal and so the word play suits with this music genre. Heavy rock metal has a strong thick sound to it which makes this music genre unique compared to other popular music genres. The genre suits the elder generation because of the loud and strong sounds which are created, furthermore this kind of music would be played in the evening but most specifically in town where there are metal bars where this genre is most common.
I believe the target audience for this type of music is 30-60 year olds because this is the most common age range for the genre because the younger generations would not be interested in this type of music also elderly people would find this music disturbing.
I wanted to make the logo stand out to this target audience and this was done by the vibrant colours and the heavy rock metal guitar which has been used as the main focus within the design. I wanted the logo to relate to the genre of music specifically and this was achieved by the creation of the guitar. Furthermore, the bright colours make the logo stand out which hopefully appeals to my target audience.
I researched heavy rock radio stations and I found RockRadio1.com which is an online radio station. I believe this would be the stations' main competitor because the popularity of this type of music is very narrow and so there be a small range of radio stations and so these two would be competing the most. The reason why these two stations would compete is the fact that they play the same genre of music. However, my station will stand out because it is new and my target audience will want to try it out to see if it is any good.
I wanted to create a typical but not stereotypical heavy rock metal look and this was done by creating the rock guitar. This would show the audience exactly what genre of music the radio station was going for. Furthermore, I wanted to also create a modern look to the radio station and this was done by using the bright, colourful colours within my logos. This was I wanted to attract the younger side to the age range ( 30 year olds ) however the colours that have been used still portray sophistication and maturity to the design.
As I did with my other logos, I looked for a variety of fonts on www.Dafont.com I wanted to have a heavy looking font which would go well with my design and the name. The three fonts were OCR A Std, American Captain and Imagine Font Regular. The font that I decided to use was Imagine Font Regular because it works really well with the logo.
I decided to use this font because it fitted really well with the heavy rock genre and the design of the logo and it made the whole logo look much more defined and bold.
The font was imported into Photoshop and I started by writing the word 'Lock' in red letters as this would think with the theme which would be conveyed throughout all three logos. I used the paragraph palette tool to dictate the font size, width and height of each letter to make the whole letters look professional.
Next, I had to import an image of a rock guitar into Photoshop, I used the pen tool to go around the whole shape and eventually I created a custom shape from the shape. By using the paint bucket tool, I filled the shape with a yellow colour. After that I used various different shapes such as ellipses, squares and straight lines to add more detail to the guitar; these were filled with a black colour. With all guitars, there has to be a guitar pick. I imported a picture of a guitar pick into Photoshop as well as a key. I used the rubber tool to eradicate all of the key apart from the top, I used the pen tool to create a custom shape to both guitar pick and key and I filled them with a red colour. To finish it off, I overlapped the key with the bottom of the guitar pick to make them link together. To add the company name to the logo, I used the custom shape tool and found a circle without the middle and I filled the shape with an orange colour by using the paint bucket tool. OW!Music -which is the company name - was written in green letters to make the name stand out. I used the paragraph palette tool to make sure the company name could fit within the circle. The logo was completed but I thought it needed something to make the logo stand out even more, so I added a black outer glow but I made it subtle enough to make it look like professional. I put this outer glow on each part of the logo which was the name, the guitar pick and the guitar.

The most successful part of the logo is the guitar because I followed the design and it came out exactly how I wanted it to. It looks very realistic and it will certainly make the target audience be attracted to the radio station as it is so unique and captivating. Overall, the logo is very successful because all separate pieces of the logo all link together very well.
My audience which evaluated the logo thought that the font used worked well and it related well to the genre of music. Also the font was clear to read for the audience. The guitar helps the audience to understand what genre of music the logo is. Others thought the logo looked very smart because I used a key to show the meaning of the word lock. Additionally, the target audience was clear but criticism was that there could be more detail, a range of colours could have been used instead of just two and the key could be bigger to show it off more.
The skills which I have learnt are to be more creative and this is conveyed by the intricate detail to guitar but also patience had to be used because I had to make sure all the dots and lines were all the same size but also the lines had to be straight otherwise the logo was look tacky.
My logo is very individual and this is how I wanted it because I wanted to see my family of logos and see how different they were compared to other logos. Also many logos in today's society are all very similar of follow the fashion of teenagers for example Capital FM are constantly changing their personality to fit with the teenagers but with my logos they're fixed to the genre and they're aimed at specific ages.
To improve my work, I could make the writing link with the logo but that would mean changing the whole design because the letters wouldn't be able to fit into the design. By this I mean to have it somehow linked to the design because in my other logos they fit in with my whole design but the original design is still effective. I would change it because it would make my logo smaller and more compact.

VIP Evaluation
VIP means Very Important People and so I thought the name represented the elder generation and more sophisticated, mature people. So therefore the genre of music which relates to this group is classical music as this is soft, pleasant and a mature style of music. This is a type of music which will be played in the evening or in the afternoon when the elderly people have completed a day and have decided to relax to a soft radio channel. VIP gives the channel a royal and sophisticated feel which could make the listener feel much more important and privileged to be listening.
As mentioned before briefly, I want the target audience to be over 60s because of the sophistication element which the channel name gives off. I want the audience to be aimed at both genders as the design combats this. The classical music can be aimed at both genres effectively.
I tried to make my logo resemble a typical posh scenario. I wanted them to see the vibrant colours and be reminded that their is still life to be lived and that everything can have an element of fun. The logo is quite unique and it shows creativity but most importantly, it shows sophistication which is the impression I wanted to create.
The stations main competitor would be Classical FM because they would play the exact same genre of music to my own but hopefully as my channel is new, my target audience would be attracted to the channel but especially the logo would be the main source of attraction because it is unconventional and unique.
My theme throughout the logo is sophistication and this is the 'look I wanted to create. However, I wanted to add youth and life to the logo and this has been achieved through the use of bright colours. By concentrating on the name of 'VIP' specially I managed to create a posh theme and by using this name as the main focus, I based the genre of music around this name and this would hopefully attract the target audience of over 60s. The logo was design around the traditional events within a posh environment and that is a champagne bottle being opened, so this is why I chose the genre as it reflects the design the best. I could imagine the target audience listening to the music when they're relaxing at home in the evening or when they have a get together with their local friends or neighbours.
Initially, I used a website which specialises on different styles of fonts and the website I used was www.Dafont.com. I didn't want to have a particular font as the font wouldn't be the most important thing within the design, however I still wanted the font to look classy and defined. The three choices of font were Absender, Apple Chancery and Birch Std. I decided to have Absender as the font because it looked classy and sharp whereas the second font was difficult to read and the last one, the letters were very fixed together and the whole font looked false and blurry.
The process of the creation of the logo was quite time consuming because everything had to be exact and sharp. Firstly, I had to import a picture of a champagne bottle into Photoshop, I created a custom shape by using the pen tool, which went around the periphery of the shape and I coloured it in red, I added more detail to it by using the paintbrush tool to make the champagne bottle look more realistic. The paint bucket tool was used to add a yellow colour to the new shapes which were created. I imported another picture of a cork into Photoshop and a custom shape was created once again. Brown was the colour which was used and this added more life to the logo design. Lastly, to add the effect of the champagne exploding I created different shapes to produce this exciting effect.
Lastly to give identity to the design, I created a small logo of OW!Music by using the custom shape tool and I found a circle with only the circumference and I filled the shape with an orange colour by using the paint bucket tool. OW!Music was written in green letters to add definition and to make the smaller logo stand out. I used the paragraph palette tool to make sure the company name could fit within the circle.
The most successful part of the logo has to be the champagne bottle because it came out exactly how I wanted it to, if not better. I am pleased at how the logo looks because it is so realistic, to me. The colours make the design look much better as there is a range of different colours which brings the whole thing to life. The colours of the font contrasts well with the colour of the exploding champagne as it makes the channel name more defined. Overall, the logo looks very realistic but so it looks tacky. If I used different colours to what I planned, this tacky look would have been created whereas the colours which were initially chosen look very effective.
My audience thought that the logo clearly relates to the radio station of 'VIP' and the images used appeals to the target audience. Others believed that the VIP life was achieved through the use of the champagne bottle. Furthermore, they thought the logo looked very classy and sophisticated. The criticism was that the edges should be sharper to give off energy. On the other hand, they thought that the logo should have more youthful colours.
The skills I have developed are to be much more creative when producing the logo. This was used especially when choosing the composition of the letters within the spilling champagne. Also I developed skills of going over the top and going beyond my comfort zone when deciding the colours to use because I find it difficult to decide which colours go well together but I thought the colours were successful.
My logo is very unique compared to other designs and this individuality is what I was going for as I want all my logos to be completely different to other logos because the family of logos are intended to be modern, hence the design and the colours.
To make my work better I could have made the design more smaller and more compact which wold symbolise unity and strength throughout the design. There could be a background to the design to add more definition to the logo and this would make the logo stand out more and look more vibrant.
