I believe the target audience is 16-24 year olds, these are the types of people who are commonly associated with this type of music. This music creates a fun and up tempo vibe and so this will get this target audience up and dancing as they can escape from the sedentary lifestyle.
I wanted my target audience to see the logo and the arrangement of the design. Especially the heart beat which is cooperated with the logo. I wanted them to the the highs and lows of the heart beat and this kind of shows the ups and downs of a lifetime and these young people will only be experiencing the highs and so they must be aware of the lows that are possible. Furthermore, with the bold outer glow, this shows that the logo is vibrant and it will stand out to the audience hopefully attracting their attention.
I think the main competitors of the station will be Capital FM or Kiss 100 because they aim their music at a similar age range and particularly at night, they play club anthems and upbeat music which is very similar to the type of music which I will want to play on this radio station. My radio station will stand out because it is something new as well as the strong drum and bass music which will be played will interest the listener.
The look which I wanted to create was a very youthful but sophisticated look. The audience would be captivating but confused on the logo design and how it relates to music. However, once they listen to the radio station they will understand how the music and the logo relate. The colours that have been used will also attract the intended target audience because they're bright and they stand out to the audience. Pulse will create a party feel in your room because of the eccentric but conventional type of songs that relate to this genre.
I had to start my logo by finding different fonts to use for the word 'Pulse'. I found the font on www.Dafont.com, but I had to search for a range of fonts so I could see which one looked the most appropriate for the logo. Planet Kosmos, Rockwell Extra Bold and Rosewood Std were the last three fonts that I decided were the best, however I had to choose one.I decided to chose the Planet Kosmos as it looked sharp and distinct compared to the others. This logo looked like it related more to the target audience of 16-24 year olds because the sharp edge that it has and so it looks more slick, which may interest the audience.
The font was imported into Photoshop and I began by writing the word 'Pulse' in red letters. I used the character and paragraph palette tool to choose the position of the letters and how wide they would be, I done this to create a more professional look. The colour red symbolises blood and this links well with the term 'Pulse' as it all relates to the biology of a human.
I had to constantly change the size of the letters because at first it looked too big but I began to change to the size. Eventually, I resulted in using font size 102, this is because the logo will stand out to the target audience and make it attractive.
From the design I drafted, I had a heart beat which was added to the word. I imported the heart beat image from the internet into Photoshop. I then used the pen tool to create a custom shape of the heart beat. Once created, I placed the shape next to the word 'Pulse' to make it look like they both link. By using the paint bucket tool, I filled the shape with the colour yellow to make the logo vibrant and bring it to life. As the theme between my logos were the colour, I had to make sure that the two colours that were used were red and yellow to ensure this theme was carried throughout.I felt like the whole design lacked punch, so I decided to make the whole logo more defined and bold. I added a black outer glow to each part of the logo and I made it look like it had a bold lining around it. This made the whole thing much more realistic and defined.
Lastly, I created the logo of Ow! Music to make my logo have an identity. I made a circle by using the custom shape tool and I shape a circle without the middle and I filled the shape with orange by using the paint bucket tool. I then typed in Ow! Music in green letters, the character and paragraph palette tool was used to make the company name fit into the circle which was created previously.
Overall, I am pleased with my logo because it came out exactly how I wanted it too, even though it was adjusted from my original design, it still looks similar. The part which was most successful has to be the heartbeat because I had to be so precise and patient when going around the shape with the pen tool. It came out very well but it does look quite bumpy and maybe it could have been refined by making the lines sharper. The colour of yellow fits nicely with the black outer glow because bees are this colour and they're and so this could show danger the design and also as it is related to 'Pulse' there is an element of danger anyway because you never know when your pulse will stop. The black outer glow makes it stand out and it shows professionalism and boldness. This is how I wanted the audience to see the design, I wanted them to be attracted and drawn in by the unconventional style of the logo.
My audience believed the logo looked sharp and bold which links well with the radio station and the identity of the station which is youth with an energized side. The feedback also stated that the font which was used was clear to read and the font conveys youth and energy. In addition, they thought the logo was unique and creative and I've thought out of the box. However they felt that the logo could be bigger and for more to be going on as it is only centered around the name and the heartbeat. In my opinion, if there was a lot going on then it may not look like a logo anymore but more of a picture.
The skills I have learnt are to be much more creative and this was used throughout this assignment. When creating the logos initially, I had to be creative when designing the different interpretations of the one logo. Especially when I brought the logo to life when using Photoshop because I had to put my Photoshop skills to the test and the relevant skills had to be used to make the design look like my original design. Moreover, by constantly using the pen tool I managed to refine my precision skills when using this tool. Furthermore, when I finished the logo I thought that I had to make it better so I made the lines on either side of the heartbeat shorter so it looked more compact and tight. This underpins my refining skills.

Compared to other logos, I haven't seen any logos which are similar to this because it is completely unique to any others. Many logos, particularly BBC radio, follow a circular design but my logo for 'Pulse' is quite simple as it only has the name of the station and the heartbeat design. As the picture shows, Radio 1 has different parts to the whole logo, which is similar to mine, but their main logo's shape is circular whereas mine is of its original shape. BBC Radio 1's colours, which are used in the logo, are the same but mine are all different colours which shows originality.
As my audience stated, the logo should be more detailed but I considered at one point to make the design look more like an actual logo like BBC radio logo. The design would look more sophisticated and it would fit in with the modern logos of today's society. The outer glow could be a different colour make the logo look more youthful and vibrant, which may interest a younger target audience.
This is the completed logo for the Pulse radio station.
